A DIFFERENT SORT OF WHAT IF…

Do you or someone you care about ever feel nervous, especially before performing in any way or trying out a new experience?
Me too.
Minds love to make up “what if” scenarios and get lost in them.
Here’s a different sort of “what if” – something to get curious about.
What if…
“Nervous” is a label our mind might give to certain sensations in the body – things like butterflies in the tummy, a quicker heart rate, and so on. And as soon as that label is slapped on, off the mind goes into a story that this is bad and we want it to stop.
“Excited” is another label our mind might give to these exact same sensations. Same sensations, different story.
Even if we prefer one label over another, the sensations in the body are just what’s arising right now, and the story the mind is telling is just evidence of what it believes.
For as long as we are captivated by the compelling story our mind is telling, the sensations will appear to be giving us information about whether it’s a good idea to try this new experience or how the performance will go or what it will mean about us if it doesn’t go the way we want it to and how we will cope with that.
A mind’s stories are really, really compelling.
That doesn’t make them true.
Freedom is knowing that it’s a story.
With that knowing, we can be really present to the sensations that are arising and will likely change really quickly when we don’t try to stop them.
And we can do the thing, sensations and all.
Whether it’s a ballet exam, a job interview, a maths test, public speaking, walking along treetops or turning off our phone to be with our family.
Want to spend more time doing the thing that’s in your heart to do? I don’t think you’ll regret that.
Feeling the call to explore what would make it possible to live a life free from regret, or want to support others, especially young people, with this?
There are two slots available before the end of November for £30 coaching/healing sessions and if you’d love to explore this sort of stuff on a friendly, relaxed Zoom call, and leave with a quieter mind and a lot of hope, click here to grab one before they are gone.
Not ready for that but curious to hear more about this life changing understanding of the human mind? Stay tuned and if you haven’t already, join the community here to make sure you don’t miss out. Or come say hello on social media – you’ll find links at the bottom of every page on this website.
